Physicist: Surface Science

Micromole is an early-stage company developing technology to meet serious biological, medical, and scientific needs. We are looking for a skilled Surface Scientist with expertise in Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) and a strong background in organic molecules to join our dynamic team.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct high-quality research using STM to understand the properties and behaviors of organic molecules at surfaces. This role involves not only conducting experiments but also analyzing and interpreting data, and developing new methods and protocols based on the findings.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, conduct, and interpret STM experiments on organic molecules at surfaces.

  • Prepare samples for STM imaging and spectroscopy.

  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets to understand molecular behavior and surface interactions.

  • Develop new methods and protocols based on experimental results.

  • Communicate findings to both scientific and non-scientific audiences through presentations, reports, and publications.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to drive the advancement of project goals.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot STM equipment as needed.

  • Stay current with the latest research and advancements in surface science and STM technologies.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.

  • Postdoctoral or equivalent industry experience in surface science and STM.

  • Extensive experience with the preparation and analysis of organic molecules.

  • Strong background in surface science and solid state physics.

  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems.

  • Experience with low temperature STM.

  • Familiarity with additional surface analysis techniques, such as XPS, LEED, or AFM.

  • Record of peer-reviewed publications in the field of surface science.
